The Best Western Plus Dartmouth Hotel & Suites receives mixed reviews, with some praising its family-friendly environment, convenient location, and enjoyable amenities like the pool and waterslide. However, recurring concerns include noise levels, inconsistent service, cleanliness issues (specifically regarding bed wear and linen changes), and instances of food safety concerns related to the restaurant.
We really enjoyed our stay! Comfortable spacious room for our family, with lots of room to lay down our toddler’s inflatable bumper mattress on the floor. Friendly helpful staff. Fun pool, although a hot tub was missed. The elevators felt a little rough, very bumpy and one was often out of service. The beds were well worn, with a definitive slump into the middle so sleeping on the outer edges meant an eventual gravity towards the center of the bed.
Overall, our stay at the hotel was good. The room was spacious and comfortable, and the location was very convenient—being close to shopping made it easy to pick up anything we needed or may have forgotten. The hotel is also family-friendly, which we appreciated. That said, there are a few areas that could use improvement. The bathroom space was quite limited—for example, when sitting on the toilet, the door could not fully open without being held by your knees. The mini fridge was also quite small and did not hold much. Service could be more consistent. At breakfast, we were told one set of information at the front desk, but the signage in the elevators displayed something different. Additionally, the breakfast food was served cold, which was disappointing. For the pool area, waivers should be provided and explained to each guest at check-in, even if they do not plan to swim. Clear rules regarding the waterslide—especially height and weight requirements—should also be communicated, as we observed children using it who may not have met the safety guidelines. Housekeeping could be more thorough. During our stay, there were instances where our room was cleaned but essentials like extra toilet paper were not replenished, and the hair/body product dispensers were not checked or refilled. The on-site restaurant served great food; however, the service could be improved. Staff should be more attentive in acknowledging guests upon arrival. We waited several minutes before needing to ask for a menu. The restaurant space is also somewhat limited, and for safety reasons, it would be helpful for staff to remind parents to keep children away from the serving and bar areas, as running in those spaces can be hazardous. Lastly, implementing or clearly posting quiet hours would help enhance the overall guest experience. Overall, while we enjoyed our stay and appreciated the location and family-friendly environment, there are several service and operational improvements that would make future stays even better. We would consider returning, but hope to see some of these concerns addressed.
I had a very disappointing stay at this hotel and would not recommend it based on my experience. The noise level was completely unacceptable throughout the stay. Both children and adults were running up and down the hallways, screaming, yelling, and even banging on doors late into the evening. It felt more like a chaotic playground than a place to rest. The lobby area was just as concerning, with groups of kids running around unsupervised, some without shirts, and behaving in a very disrespectful manner. There was little to no visible staff intervention. The pool and deck area were essentially unusable. It was extremely overcrowded, with many adults openly drinking. Beer cans, cider cans, vodka coolers, and pop cans were scattered around the deck, creating both a mess and a safety concern. There was no sense of supervision or enforcement of basic rules. I did bring these concerns to the front desk multiple times. Each time, I was told they would “look into it,” but no meaningful action was taken. When I specifically asked if they could address the guests above us who were jumping on beds and causing significant noise, I was told nothing could be done until quiet hours at 10:00 PM, which was very frustrating. Overall, the lack of management, cleanliness, and respect for other guests made this stay extremely unpleasant. I would strongly suggest looking elsewhere if you’re hoping for a quiet and relaxing environment. Update: Upon checkout the assistant manager was kind and understanding and gave us free complimentary night. Not sure why/if we would come stay again, and this doesnt change our experience, we we didn't get to sleep until after 1am due to noise and people, but I will give them credit for hearing our concerns and doing something in the end. The rest of my review is factual and accurate however.
-Fantastic waterslide in the pool area and separate enough it is noticeably safer than other slides that drop people in their pools. It is impressive. -Pool is well kept and warm enough. -Great splash pad in the pool area for my little one. -Very clean, decent breakfast.
Stayed at this hotel for a staff function. The room we were given was spacious and with a jacuzzi. It was clean. King size bed was comfortable. The only cons was there was no coffee machine in the room, no fan in the bathroom and could have another comfortable chair.
I didn't stay, I was there for a meeting. Whilst the conference hall was pleasantly set up, I found the lack of refreshments, particularly tea and coffee disappointing upon entering the hall. Refreshments were present during the lunch, (the lunch was excellent too). The other thing to note is that our meeting room was a portion of a large meeting room. The partition between meetings didn't really help dampen the adjacent's meeting discussion. Whilst it was still private, I found it distracting.
This used to be our go to place for a hotel. But the last couple of stays we realize it's changed. It's obviously changed owners. The food at the restaurant and is not as good, and now me and my guests all have food poisoning. Myself, my 72 yr old mother and my 9 yr old all felt ill directly after breakfast. And for the last 24 hrs we've all dealt with stomach cramps, nausea, diarrhea and feeling over all weak. There's nothing else except for likely we all ate the breakfast sausage. They used to switch the meat on sundays from the day before and it was the same. I don't know what else it could be, but I'm very disappointed. This has been a horrible way to end the weekend.
Good location, easy to get too. The room we had was quite large, quiet and clean. King bed plus two tv's. Complimentary breakfast plus 24 hour coffee. Lots of parking.
We stayed 9 nights in a business king room. Room was great, comfort, clean and spacious. All of the staff were terrific, the hot free breakfast excellent, and the topper was the pub in the hotel itself. Wonderful food which we sampled several times and were quite satisfied each time. With the quiet location, the great people, reasonable price and in a great spot in the Dartmouth area, I would heartily recommend this hotel as my first choice to stay at.
Best Western Plus has never disappointed me. They maintain very high standards that seem consistent across all their locations in Canada. Check-in was fast, the staff were friendly, and access to the elevators and rooms was easy. As always, everything was spotless—clean throughout from the lobby to the room. There’s a gastro pub to the right of the main entrance that seemed to be quite popular, though we chose to eat outside of the hotel. Unfortunately, my room faced a wall—literally about a foot away from the window. Not exactly scenic! It’s not a big deal for me since I wasn’t there for the view, but if that matters to you, I’d recommend calling ahead to request a room with a better outlook. Aside from that small detail, BWP remains top-notch in both standards and quality. It’s always our safe space on the road, and we’ll continue to trust them whenever we travel.
