The Coastal Inn Halifax receives mixed reviews, with some guests praising its cleanliness and friendly staff, while others express concerns about inconsistent service, outdated facilities, and limited breakfast options. Recent reviews highlight issues with room quality, particularly concerning rushed renovations and a lack of amenities like WiFi and adequate lighting, alongside positive feedback on exceptional customer service from specific employees.
Clean rooms and very comfortable beds. Has indoor pool. Breakfast is provided; pre-made pancakes, waffles, boiled eggs, selection of breads, bagels, english muffins, cereal and yogurt. Laundry one washer and dryer 2nd floor $4 to wash $4 to dry.
***EDIT*** I understand that these things happen, and that the safety issues were paramount. I do not appreciate a straw man argument being thrown forth. Nothing in what I wrote says that you were dismissive of the safety of the guests. It was your attitude towards talking with a guest that was the problem. Before you realized I was coming around the corner you said “Finally I can go home and stop thinking about the damn pool!” You caught yourself AFTER blaming children as the issue. There was no interest in compensation when I said the positive reviews of the pool was why we came here. Just “it is what it is.” Again… lack of ethical customer service. $614 for two rooms for one night, only to be talked at when an issue arises. Not a bad place, but the pool was suddenly closed. When I talked to the manager I got talked at. Very dismissive, very rude, incredibly uncaring, and nothing will be done if an issue arises in the way of compensation. My kids are really upset about the pool, and I am incredibly disgusted with the lack of ethical customer service.
Clearly they are working at improving things, but the price they are charging is totally out of whack with the experience and leads to disappointment. We were put in a newly renovated room, and it was nice and clean, but the quality of the work was poor. Ripped wall paper in the bathroom and clearly rushed. It was also pretty small. We had booked the room as part of a team, travelling with kids, and there was no wifi, and the TV wasn’t configured or connecting with the internet. Pool was tiny, and had no towels, had to go ask for some. Breakfast was fine, but just a little odd…lukewarm beans, and boiled eggs wrapped in plastic and closed with scotch tape? Toast and cereal was fine. On leaving the staff at the desk asked us how everything was, and I mentioned the wifi and TV weren’t working. The staff person said “that just happens sometimes” no apology or any attempt to address. I will say all the staff we dealt with were friendly though and we never felt unwelcome. If the room was $120-140 a night it would be a decent value. But at $229 it is not worth it and feels like a rip off. In the elevator they have a photo of all the properties they own, clear that the management is focused on expansion rather than creating a good product for guests and supporting the good staff they have.
I'm not being rude just sharing how I feel. We stayed 2 nights cost us around $250 Jan 2026 Lobby: under construction but has potential to look really nice. Ladies at the front desk were very friendly. Pool: very small, my kids were pretty bored after 30 minutes. We ended up finding a rec center to go swimming at instead. Rooms: Dated carpet and wallpaper (currently doing renovations), mattress was comfortable. I didn't like the smell of the cleaner that was used before we got there so bought an air freshener. Services: It was a bit annoying that we were out of our room Saturday from 10:30- 5pm and at 5:10 the maid knocked on the door to clean the room. She only changed the towels and made the beds so didn't take long but was still inconvenient. I would have liked a quick vacuum as the kids had made a bit of a mess. Breakfast: yogurt, cereal, toast, english muffins, bagels, beans, hard boiled eggs only, eggos and toaster pancakes, Coffee and juice. Location: was good for us it was close to everything. But don't expect a nice few out your room window. It was a nice stay.
Room is very clean and shower is so big! Guest service is excellent! Five stars for all! Great way to kick off the new year ?
Aimee/Amee was an outstanding part of our stay at Coastal Inn. We were so excited for our stay there after our interaction with her. I’m not even sure of the right words to say because of how fantastic she was. Please pass this review onto her boss. Employees like her are few and far between! Thank you so much to her for not only brightening our day but putting ear to ear smiles on our faces and being there for whatever we needed.
Friendly and helpful staff. The room was ready when we arrived. The room was modern and clean, but lacking decent overhead lighting. It wasn’t the easiest to read in bed. The room had no closet and only the main dresser to set items on. Mini fridge, TV and microwave were in the room. The curtains don’t block the sun in the morning unfortunately. The bathroom was clean and the water pressure was good. There was a pool, but we didn’t use it. The continental breakfast was OK, but lacked hot eggs or protein. There was warm beans, lots of toast and bagel options and various cereals. The yogurt choices were quality. Lemon-water and coffee in the lobby. There is a nearby Tim Horton’s and a Starbucks within walking distance, but not much else unless you have access to a car.
We spent one night here with our kids and will definitely come back. The staff were friendly and welcoming, which made everything feel easy and relaxed. Our kids loved the pool, and the breakfast in the morning was a nice added bonus. Overall, a clean, comfortable, family friendly place to stay.
Me my wife ,daughter recently stayed at Coastal Inn for a coastal weekend that became essential as our daughter searched for housing close to her college. The front desk staff were welcoming and attentive, helping make a potentially stressful trip feel seamless from start to finish. Our room was comfortable, CLEAN and well-equipped, with clean, comfortable beds, a fair-sized fridge if you plan on staying enough to shop stock fridge , a microwave, and a coffee setup that made mornings easy. The AC kept the room perfectly cool, especially after long days out. The continental breakfast offered a great variety eggs toast pancakes french toast , cereal and tons of other yummy foods which helped us fuel busy days of apartment visits and apartment hunting. A standout was the overall service— front desk Amy went above and beyond to make sure our stay was pleasant and even gave refund for last day, that was not needed as we found a place for our daughter faster than we thought , cleaning staff while out looking for apartments, Angela kept the hotel space spotless and welcoming throughout our stay always asking if we needed anything . The location was ideal for quick trips to campus, dining, easy to get around driving in this area is less busy if you want out of the city driving chaos after a long day. If you’re visiting beehville for a college search in the family, coastal inn provides a calm, comfortable base with five-star service. We’d happily return 110% the price was great and because how welcomed we felt can't compare and that’s something money can buy plus while out we felt safe in this remote area coming from Fredericton N.B . As soon as I'm actually booking again to help set my daughter apartment up and will be staying here again . It's 7.4 km drive from downtown Hailfax and Martime bus terminal. See you again soon ! ?
On the positive side, check in was fast and friendly. The room was larger than average and the beds were comfortable. However, the bathroom floor was sticky and the grout needed a lot of care as it was quite grungy. Their breakfast was primarily carbs complete with nine loaves of sliced bread and three bags of bagels and some refrigerated waffles you could toast; oh, and cereal. There were no eggs, bacon or even chicken sausages, though they did have a pot of canned beans. Luckily, there's fast food near buy. Though the rooms were okay, the dirty bathroom and scant breakfast made it a poor value.
