The Hearthstone Inn Boutique Hotel receives mixed reviews, with concerns surrounding inconsistent service, cleanliness issues, and outdated facilities. While some guests appreciate the location and value, recent experiences have highlighted problems with responsiveness, room condition, and elevator functionality.
I stayed at this hotel from February 6th to February 9th. I was told that my security deposit would be returned within 5 days after checkout. However, I did not receive it. When I called the hotel, the receptionist told me she had to process the refund manually and asked me to wait another 5 days. After almost a month passed and I still hadn’t received my deposit, I called again. This time, I was told to contact my bank instead. This is completely unacceptable. I had to keep following up just to get my own money back, and no one took responsibility or provided a proper solution. Very unprofessional service and extremely disappointing experience. If I could give zero stars, I would
Location to shopping and eating in Dartmouth was good. Parking is extremely limited. You have to park on the road if the few spots are filled up. Rooms were clean, but outlets need to be updated because chargers etc, would not stay plugged in. Paint peeling in the room and lights over vanity were out. Lipstick on a pig in a few areas.
Good location, nice room, clean. The reason I gave low stars, was that the elevator was broken for the two days I was there, with a bad knee and two bags to carry up a flight, it wasn’t good, I complained and no offer to help. When I left, I carried one bag at a time, a man saw me struggling and came to help, he said he’s the maintenance man, he carried my bags right to my vehicle. I sure appreciated him. At the very least, I should have gotten a call stating no elevator, I booked as I’d stayed a few times and there was an elevator. As no call, then I should be offered help. I’ll think twice about staying again, unfortunately
This hotel provided excellent service at a very reasonable price. We stayed for a weekend in Halifax and mainly needed a comfortable place to rest. The location was ideal—close to major attractions and restaurants—yet quiet at night. The room was clean, cozy, and equipped with everything we needed, including reliable Wi-Fi and convenient parking. The staff were friendly and helpful, making our stay even more pleasant. Overall, a great choice for travelers seeking comfort, value, and convenience in Halifax.
In a word, filthy. Bathroom was not cleaned properly. Toiletries were old and yellow looking as if they were reused. Bed had bloodstains, as well as the one towel that was provided. Visible un-swept areas under bed and furniture with significant debris. Was told guests could early check in. When arrived at arranged time desk clerk refused to help saying room was not ready and was surfing internet. However it was only because their shift was over and they didn't want to bother. Family had to wait two hours for regular check in. Room's air conditioner did not work. No breakfast even though it was listed as included. Embarrassed to arrange room for family as many years ago it was a clean hotel. But now it is a filthy, and barely managed. Spend your money elsewhere.
Wonderful place to stay while visiting Halifax and Nova Scotia! You cannot beat the price and location. Yes, it is an older hotel, but the rooms were clean, the beds and pillows were comfortable, and you cannot beat the location and price. We stayed here and were affected by the Air Canada strike- this hotel was one of the only service providers we used that didn't increase their prices and worked with us to make sure we could keep our room as long as we needed. I can't wait to come and stay again!
Older spot , room was ok . Bathrooms were small and dated . Very low toilet , could be updated to a comfort height. View out window was of a run down looking motel type building . Outside could use some upkeep too at inn. Paint peeling off at windows. our A.C unit hardly put out cold air. But they did provide a plug in fan in the room but didn't make much difference. Parking lot extremely small . Might hold 25 to 30 cars . I wouldn't be surprised that if we couldn't get a parking spot. They'd tell us to park across the street at the superstore. The bar seemed popular was greeted by a drunk man staggering out of the hotel. Throughout the night could hear a few loud bangs which I'm guessing was other units doors shutting . It was a place to stay for the night
We stayed at the Hearthstone for 1 week (August 10-16). We are a family of 4 (2 adults, 2 teens) and our Siberian Husky. They gave us a corner room on the top floor. Room and beds were very clean. Mini bar in room was older version but worked well. We loved the free coffee in front lobby! Location was good for us, since my brother lives on Oathill Drive and we were visiting from Ottawa. Great coffee and scones at the Cottage Cafe across Prince Albert road, beside the Lake Banook. Nice bike/walking path for walking the dog by Prince Albert, but traffic is heavy. Our dog preferred the side streets up the hill. Definitely a 3 star hotel, but worked great for us. Would stay again.
