The Holiday Inn Express & Suites Halifax-Bedford has received mixed feedback regarding cleanliness and facility management. Guests praise the friendly staff, comfortable rooms, and convenient location, but several negative reviews cite unprofessional management, pest issues, and lack of communication during service outages.
I really enjoyed the bar at the Holiday Inn Express. The cocktails were excellent, well made, and very tasty. There was a great selection, and everything we tried was delicious. The bartender was extremely friendly, kind, and welcoming, which made the experience even better. The atmosphere was relaxed and enjoyable, perfect for ending the day. I highly recommend stopping by the bar if you stay at this hotel!
We came up from Cape Breton to stay for 2 nights with our daughters. We realized when we left CB, we had forgotten our daughter’s floatie for the pool. We called the hotel to see if they provide any life jackets or floats, we were told they do not and the gentleman on thephone apologized. Not a problem! We found one on marketplace, a little out of the way from the hotel, but worth it- as this was the main reason we chose this hotel over the much cheaper pool-less version. Imagine our dissapointment once we finally arrive, only to be told the elevator AND POOL are out of service. No mention of this on the phone the hour before we arrive when we called SPECIFICALLY ABOUT THE POOL (made a purchase we didn’t need to specifically for the pool based off that phone call) and are told “oops sorry we didn’t call or let you know.” Zero communication. Zero compassion. Zero compensation. We canceled our reservation, and now they are holding our money hostage. I will NEVER stay at a Holiday Inn or family hotel EVER again. And I will recommend the same to all who will listen.
This has been one of the most unprofessional hotel stays I have experienced. Check-in was chaotic and uncomfortable. I was being checked in by a front desk agent named Ryan, who was professional and helpful. While he was actively checking me in and on the phone with my employer confirming the reservation, the manager, Carmella, interrupted, removed him from the computer mid-check-in, and gave both him and myself attitude. There was no welcome, no apology, and no basic customer service. After my room had already been assigned, the manager returned and stated I would not be given that room because a mouse had reportedly been seen the night before. This was announced publicly and handled in a rude and condescending manner, including asking me why I would want to sleep with a mouse. This raised serious concerns about cleanliness and pest control in the building. The room I was given was not clean. The shower floor had visible dirt and scuff marks. Noise was a major issue. The room next door had a dog barking continuously. I was placed beside the kitchen and was woken up around 5:00 a.m. by loud cooking and staff noise. Additionally, children around ages 6 to 9 were running up and down the hallway around 9:00 p.m. and using the gym unsupervised, which is inappropriate and disruptive, especially for guests on work trips. When I raised concerns, the response from the front desk was simply “sorry,” with no attempt to resolve the issues. I am here for work and will not be booking this location again. I stayed at a Best Western the night before, and it was significantly more professional, quieter, and cleaner. This location does not meet the standards I expect from the Holiday Inn Express brand.
I just got home from a two night stay at the Holiday Inn Express Bedford. I travelled with my husband and our 6 month old baby. We truly enjoyed our time at this hotel. I had booked it without reading all of the reviews, and after seeing reviews that mentioned rodents I was very concerned as I have an extreme phobia of mice (I know, silly but I can’t seem to kick it!). My husband called the hotel after me worrying about it and they assured him that a mouse had gotten in when the carpets were cleaned but had been taken care of since. The kind man (Brock) said he guaranteed there were no mice on the property currently but offered to move us to the top floor if it would ease my mind. When we arrived our room was very clean and what you’d expect from a Holiday Inn Express. The bed was super comfy and there was plenty of space in the room. Our housekeeper was absolutely sweet and attentive. We enjoyed the pool and the breakfast was nice and fresh. There were some lovely festive decorations put up for the holidays. The hotel is big enough that it has lots of amenities but small enough that we never had to wait for an elevator. You really can’t beat the location. Oh - and we didn’t spot any signs of any pests whatsoever. Overall a great stay and we will be back for sure! Listen to the positive reviews and if you have concerns just call the hotel and they’ll be very understanding :)
We just arrived home from a 2 night stay. The room had mice. The front desk guy placed down sticky traps- so inhumane. No one seemed concerned at all. Management never seemed to be there. We had to place our stuff up on the desk and couch. I could hear them all night. Not to mention they piss and shit as they run around. They were completely booked so we couldn’t move rooms. We booked with a third party so nothing they can do. Mice get in because the doors are always opening. That’s fine- bugs and mice happen. But the complete lack of caring and no apologies and left numerous messages for manager and no calls back. We called again and they send up a maintenance person. I felt awful because he doesn’t understand English and was trying to communicate through his phone to translate. I said they could have called around and got us another room somewhere else. I feel like everything I own is contaminated as well as myself. We have to contact Super.com on Monday to get a refund and they can call the hotel. I’m still astounded this happened and how casual it was. I would never ever go there again.
I accidentally booked the wrong check-in date, but the front desk team was incredibly friendly and helped me cancel and correct it right away. They made the whole process quick and stress-free. My stay was excellent—the bed was very comfortable, the room felt fresh and well-maintained, almost like new, and the internet speed was perfect for my work. I stayed for five days and had a great experience. The location is also very convenient for getting around Halifax. There are two gas stations near by to get any late night snacks and smokes. There is a Tim nearby as well. This made things very easy for me. Also as a bonus there is ample parking available and is free for people staying unlike most downtown stays. Really appreciate the warm hospitality!
The location of this hotel was perfect for location with easy access from the highway and ability to get downtown. Staff were thorough with all the information we needed to enjoy our stay. Room was incredibly clean and just the right temperature. There is a mini fridge, microwave, and coffee maker in this room so you could easily stop at the grocery store and get some snacks too, although there are convenient fast food options close by. Breakfast was delicious with plenty of sweet and savory options. We had enough for us and even had options we could share with 8 month old. Staff were busy maintaining a clean and organized kitchen area. The only complaint we had was our room was close to the elevator which seemed to run constantly without anyone on it and it was really loud.
