The Inn On The Lake offers a generally pleasant experience with friendly staff and a decent restaurant, particularly for travelers needing a convenient location near Halifax Airport. However, recent reviews highlight inconsistencies in service and amenities, including outdated rooms and unresolved maintenance issues.
Booked in for Valentine Day Package. Room 103 (with whirlpool tub) was old but clean. Restaurant meal was nicely done but steak was tough. Staff were frienfly and efficient. However bathroom fan did not work and the faucet was very stiff to turn. Lightbulb in ceiling light flickered (burning out), No continental breakfast.
I am hoping my experience with the hotel is unusual. I made 2 separate room reservations because the site didn't allow 2 rooms to be booked at the same time (despite the option being there). The 1st was made online, the 2nd through the hotel. Plans changed and I made a new reservation for 1 person for 2 nights, then proceeded to cancel the online reservation and (as stated in the hotel's email for the 2nd reservation) emailed the hotel to cancel the 2nd reservation. To my surprise when I called the hotel to tell them I would be getting there late the lady told me there was no reservation. After giving her the reservation number she confirmed the hotel had cancelled my new reservation but (I found out the next morning from the man on the desk) left 1 of the 2 original reservations still open. When I checked into my room, the TV didn't work. I was shifted to a new room. It took over 5 minutes of wasting water at high volume to get hot water (I presume because there were few guests?). I was told by the lady on duty there were muffins and coffee, etc. available for guests. I did pick up a very stale muffin that night, but there was never anything out again during my stay. The next afternoon when I briefly returned to my room I noted that housekeeping hadn't shown up. When I asked the lady on the front desk why they didn't come she said they were gone but would be back the next morning. I had left my bed's upper sheet exposed so housekeeping could see the blood stains on it and change the sheet - to no avail. As I was getting into my car a maintenance man (?) came up to me and said he could do something in my room, although he was not sure what housekeeping's duties were. I declined. So all in all, not the best experience.
Room was cool when we arrived, but warmed up quickly. Limited wall plugs meant a challenge to charge electronics including hearing aids. Just a suggestion but, charging block(s) available at the check in, for in room use, would be useful and cheaper than installing more wall plugs.
Has a wonderful stay at Inn On The Lake. Room was clean and comfortable, and front desk staff was so helpful and pleasant. My only (very minor) complaint was that it was hard to track down available outlets. My partner used a CPAP machine which must be plugged into the bed, plus we both had to charge our phones, and wanted to get some work done on our laptops. I was surprised not to find any easily accessible and available bedside outlets. It won’t stop us from visiting again, but having bedside charging readily available on both sides of the bed does feel like a basic hotel amenity in this day and age.
Stayed here for our anniversary and were not disappointed. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the restaurant was to die for, and the room was clean and tidy. My only complaint were the pillow cases were a bit nubby from being washed so many times, so I would recommend they get some new ones. Fantastic stay and we will be back for sure!
This Inn has so much potential and we were told that the new owners have begun to update the rooms. Thankfully, the whole place is clean and comfortable. We enjoyed our lunch at the poolside patio and a spectacular pork tenderloin dinner in the main restaurant. All the waitstaff were friendly and efficient. The location makes the Inn on the Lake a perfect place to stay before an early morning flight from Halifax Airport, although they have recently discontinued the shuttle service. All in all, we would stay there again.
