Porters Peak offers a rustic getaway with stunning lake views and a peaceful atmosphere, as evidenced by many positive reviews. However, recent experiences highlight significant issues with cleanliness and responsiveness from management. Guests rave about the cozy cabins and proximity to outdoor activities, while others report unacceptable conditions upon arrival and difficulty contacting staff.
First time going to this location, boyfriend and i absolutely loved it! Planning on returning in the warmer weather, will most likely become a frequent spot even for just me. Absolutely beautiful location and beautiful chalet, great way to get off our phones and enjoy each others company or simply enjoy the peace. Since it was pet friendly as well, I brought my cat and she absolutely adored it and was upset to leave, we plan to bring our dog next in the spring! It was a surprise to us to see that an activity table was in the chalet with mini pool and ping pong and so much more, really enjoyed that as well and had a couple rounds of pool. Thank you for the wonderful experience, we will be back and I plan to share this location with the important people in my life!
Would not recommend. My partner and I booked a stay here in one of their cabins a month in advance. We showed up last night after check-in time began to find our cabin in complete disarray. It’s very clear to us now that the issue was that it had not been serviced since the last guests were there. The bedding hadn’t been changed, there was garbage and recycling everywhere, floors were dirty, the solar power bank was almost dead, etc. Also, the toilet didn’t appear to be working. I tried every available means of contacting them (email, phone call, instagram DM, driving to the “front desk” shipping container) and couldn’t get in touch with them. After an hour we left, as we weren’t able to stay the night in the condition the accommodations were left in. I received a brief text this morning informing me that they had refunded me, with a note saying “We did not realize the cabin was rented again”. Seems like a pretty thin excuse given that we booked a month in advance, and they actually called me 10 days prior to our reservation to ask if we’d be willing to switch cabins (so clearly our reservation was on their radar). FWIW, my partner and I did visit this place once previously and enjoyed our stay. I understand mistakes can happen, but the combination of poor communication, no real accountability, and bare minimum remediation has really left a bad taste in my mouth. A refund does not compensate for the hours we spent driving to and from and the inconvenience of this whole ordeal. ALSO, not having any means of contact available to your guests is no way to run a business.
Love, love, love, love! Needless to say Porter’s Peak is my new obsession. The chalets make great winter weekend getaways! My partner and I stayed in the Sunset Loft in November and it was adorable — super cozy and warm. The property is stunning and there’s lots to explore! I’m looking forward to our next trip!
We were very impressed with the area, and the cabin. Probably one of my favorite rustic cabin/bunkies I've stayed at in Nova Scotia. Awesome directions given for getting in and great signage for getting out. Really happy to see something like this close to the city so we can get away for a night without a ton of travel time. If you want a night away to enjoy peace and quiet, nature, and stars, this is a place for you, and if hiking is your thing the beautiful crowbar trail is right there.
My wife and I spent a weekend in one of the lakeside Chalets at Porter’s Peak and it was simply fantastic. From the moment we arrived we felt utterly relaxed—waking up to the lake, trees, and that deep quiet outside of the city. The Chalet was cozy, well equipped and gave us just the right mix of comfort and outdoorsy feel. We enjoyed exploring the other chalets and cabins around the lake, then kicking back and unplugging for the night. The hosts were friendly and attentive and we love the vision they have for this place. If you’re looking to escape the routine and recharge in nature, this place is a sweet spot, that's not too far from Halifax, but worlds away in spirit. We’ll absolutely be back.
We spent 2 nights at Porters Peak and had a lovely experience. As expected, the ‘driveway’ is long, twisty and has a few hills, but not an issue at all for most vehicles. We were fine in our truck without needing to use 4-wheel drive. We stayed in the ‘Eager Beaver’ cabin. It was the perfect location with a nice view of the lake (although it is more of a pond) and a very short walk down to the dock and games area. The cabin was clean and cozy, with access to a BBQ and propane burners for cooking. Our stay was peaceful and quiet, and we wouldn’t hesitate to stay again. It would be a perfect location for an off-grid weekend getaway from the city.
