Salmon River Country Inn & The Mermaid Eatery offers a charming German-inspired dining experience with beautiful views of Salmon River. Guests consistently praise the delicious food, friendly service, and authentic atmosphere, especially highlighting the schnitzel and local seafood selections. While some recent reviews mention slower service, the overall experience is highly positive.
Stopped in because we were looking for a place to have a beer near the water. The owner happened to be outside and greeted us with a lovely smile and made us feel extremely welcomed there. Our server was amazing. Really helpful, quick, and friendly. We ended up eating dinner there too. The schnitzel and potato salad was delicious!
I loved the view from the terrace outside. The food was fabulous and budget friendly. They accomodate for food intolerance and allergies, so we had lovely sea food chowder with a bit of coconut cream instead of dairy. The modification actually helped us appreciate the fish broth and sea food taste even more. I loved the German influence too as I had really good schnitzel. Would recommend this place for lunch or dinner if you are in the area.
We stayed at the Inn and enjoyed the food. We both had German style dinners; schnitzel and bratwurst sausages. They were served well with large beers. There was live music (guitar and fiddle) and the atmosphere was very enjoyable. The side room felt detached from the main space, it was nicer when we opened the slatted doors. Nevertheless, it was a nice end to a long day travelling.
Loved it! German inspired, this little eatery is an awesome hidden gem. We lucked into some love music the night we attended. Service is top notch and food is great! And for anyone who's celiac, this place offers a lot of GF selections!
Well worth the drive. This is an Eastern Shore gem. The German food tasted very authentic. The Schnitzel, Sour Bratten and Spatzle were extremely tasty. And then you have to try the Strudel and Black Forest cake. Yum!!!! And then add the great staff, the view down Salmon River and it is a recipe for a great evening. Love this place.
Very nice variety, mixing German food and local seafood specialties. Service seemed a little slow and overwhelmed so hopefully the staff can ramp up a bit better. For food, we had the pork schnitzel (very nice, crispy and flavourful), fish chowder (a little heavy on the potato and needs some salt and hot sauce but the fish is nice), sauerbraten (sauce is good, and lingonberries were a nice touch), and bratwurst (I think it was just breakfast sausages so that was disappointing...). However the kids grilled cheese sandwich was genuinely delicious and we all wanted a bite!
