It was fine for a night stay. Although the rooms feel old, and are very cramped for a stay of four people. There's no microwave and the mini fridge is hidden under the TV. The television is also outdated so if you wanted to watch Netflix or anything, you'd have to hook up a laptop. There was nothing special about it, and it was priced pretty high for what it's worth. The bathrooms didn't come with enough towels or supplies for showers, so we had to speak with customer service and get what we needed. The service was pretty quick and eager to help accommodate whatever was needed, but its kinda crazy how there's no complementary water and we had to pay $4 dollars per bottle. Sauna was cool though, which is probably the only thing carrying the review to three stars. The location itself was good, it was close to downtown and quite a city-scenic route for a walk.

This hotel is o.k., but not what I would've expected for downtown Halifax. It was clean and central to the downtown core, but the amenities and rooms definitely lacked care and upkeep. Glitchy lighting. Hallways are not soundproof and extremely noisy. The staff are okay but seem indifferent to the whole client experience. The attached restaurant was good though. Props to the team at Tempo. Great service there. Overall, mediocre experience if you balance out the good with the N/I.

Honestly, I'm really torn on this review. The staff were incredibly friendly during my stay. However, the cons kind of outweigh the pros here. This hotel does have a pool that I partook in since I was down there already and that was fine. However, there was something gritty all over the bottom of the pool that I'd rather not think about. As far as the rooms they were clean but obviously outdated us. Other people have mentioned in their reviews and there were three or four hall ways you had to go down in order to find a room. Not to mention that it's listed as having parking on site. The parking is absolutely not on site. You have to park behind the scotius Square Mall out of your own pocket and then figure out dragging all of your luggage through Scotia Square Mall across the above ground walkways and then figure out how to get back to the hotel. Not an absolute dive but definitely won't be staying here again. There are nicer places to stay in Halifax.

It is a nice historic hotel but I think it could use some modernizing. The rooms dont have any ventilation and the windows cant open either so it gets really humid and stuffy quickly. Extremely slow elevator and we mostly just used the stairs. Nice high ceilings though and lots of character in the building

The washrooms are very old school and there was dust on the exhaust. The exhaust also does not work and it got very steamy in the washroom. The rooms are very dated with old carpet. There is no free parking or breakfast included and Tempo has a mediocre menu. The carpets also need to be either removed or changed, they are extremely old. Being a famous hotel right on Barrington street it was extremely underwhelming.

Our check-in experience was frustrating. We got to the hotel at around 5:30 and got to the front desk around 6:00 where we were told our room was not ready and would be another 15 minutes (check in was three hours ago...) When we returned after 20 minutes, we were told it would be an additional 20 minutes. After coming back a third time, they finally checked on the room and allowed us to check in but the whole process took nearly an hour. Would have been better if they told us right off the bat it would be that long. Rooms were okay, the bedding had stains, which was unpleasant. Overall it was a dissapointing experience, I understand it was stressful for the front desk staff, but I don't understand how the rooms were not ready at 5:30.

Ill start of by saying something nice. The staff are friendly and the location is tremendous. This the worst hotel I have ever stayed in my life. I wanted to leave last night. The rooms are bad, the furniture is worn. There appears to be not upkeep to the hotel. The swimming pool is too cold to use. They pretty much make you park in a far away land then charge you $30 for it. It was an awful experience. I got a rate on this room, I feel bad anyone who pays full price.

This was a nice location - close to the water front board walk where lots of restaurants are. Not the best pool area as there is no hot tub and it takes forever for the saunas to heat up and I saw bugs crawling around inside of it. The staff were friendly and accommodating and the lobby restaurant had good dine in food and a nice selection of grab and go options for a quick snack. Shout out to Lisa being a great server at the Tempo restaurant!

This hotel has amazing staff! From the front desk, to security to the restaurant. Hands down one of the few places we have stayed where the customer service was outstanding everywhere you turned. For this I give them 5 ?. We stayed in a king size room. It had a view of the lovely courtyard and was very clean. Highly recommend!

There is definitely a reason this hotel has a no refund policy. It is dated but not in the quaint or charming way, more in the “maybe it has not been updated since the early 90s” way. My room had bugs, which was a nice little surprise I did not ask for. Housekeeping only comes after three days which might be fine if the place felt clean to begin with but it did not. To make it worse the cleaning staff I overheard were loudly complaining about how much they hate cleaning… which is hard to get behind when they only show up once in a five day stay. There is almost no sound proofing. By 6am you are woken up by constant banging, most likely from the GoodLife gym below. Nothing like being forced into early morning cardio without actually working out yourself. No waters were left in the room which is kind of basic hospitality 101. The one bright spot was the front desk staff who were kind and professional. Unfortunately that did not make up for everything else. Overall I would say if you are looking for a restful stay, maybe bring earplugs, cleaning supplies, and a sense of humor. You are going to need all three.
