The Halifax Rooftop offers a unique, communal-style stay with a focus on a relaxed, lived-in atmosphere and modern amenities. While praised for its location and thoughtful design, recent reviews highlight significant cleanliness concerns, lack of privacy, and inconsistent service, particularly regarding responsiveness and breakfast offerings. The property's shared spaces and reliance on technology present both advantages and potential challenges for guests.

We stayed here for a short getaway and overall had a really good experience — it felt comfortable, clean, and thoughtfully run, but still very much like a real home rather than a hotel. Dami, Julia & Rebecca were also great! The room itself was nice and the bed was very comfortable, which made sleeping easy after long days out. Everything was clean and well kept, and the check-in process was simple with clear instructions. It’s worth noting it is a shared space, so you are aware of other guests coming and going. We didn’t mind that, but it’s not total privacy the way a hotel would be. The hot tub is a shared amenity, so you do need to be mindful and coordinate timing if you want it to yourself, which sometimes takes a bit of planning. Also, the HRV system can be a bit noticeable at times — not constantly, but you do hear it occasionally, especially in quieter moments. It wasn’t a dealbreaker for us, just something to be aware of if you’re sensitive to noise. What stood out most was that everything was still well maintained and the space felt intentional and welcoming. It has a relaxed, lived-in feel, and we appreciated that balance of comfort and simplicity. Overall, it was a solid stay and we’d come back again, just knowing it’s more of a shared, communal-style setup rather than a fully private hotel experience. It’s also a grab and go style breakfast and more just snacks, complimentary of the owner!

Built with intention, but maintained with none. The Halifax Rooftop looks high-end in photos, but the actual experience was defined by neglect and a complete lack of responsibility from management. The cleanliness was unacceptable from the start. Upon check-in, we found containers scattered across the floor and visible soil in both the sink and the toilet. The most disturbing discovery was a blood stain on the duvet which makes the sanitary conditions of the entire suite highly debatable. Furthermore, the makeup remover wipes were not even sealed properly, leaving them exposed and unhygienic. It is irresponsible to overlook such basic hygiene standards. The management also lacks basic logic. We booked for two guests for two nights yet were provided with ONLY ONE dental floss pick. It is baffling why basic essentials are not carried out with any common sense. Additionally, the shower curtain is the wrong size for the shower area, causing water to splash all over the floor every time you shower. To top it off, there is a $10 laundry load charge that is mentioned nowhere, not in the original listing and not in the provided price list. It is not about the cost, but the lack of transparency. This property is a case of a beautiful space ruined by poor maintenance and an irresponsible host. We will never go back.

The best part of our stay at the Halifax Rooftop was the location. It’s in a quiet neighbourhood but close to lively areas with great bars and restaurants. The interior also has a lot of potential, with spacious rooms that look impressive at first glance. Unfortunately, everything else fell short. Service was poor from the start. There was no help with bags up multiple flights of stairs and only a very brief rundown of the facilities, with no explanation of how to use the communal areas. It also wasn’t clear from the website that the two staff members live there, so being in the shared spaces felt like intruding in their home, interrupting phone calls and meals. It was all very unwelcoming. There were also dirty dishes from their meals left out the entire time we were there. The included breakfast was also disappointing. It wasn’t provided by Mindful Meals as stated in the house manual, and when we texted our order as instructed, we were told the menu was out of date and couldn’t have what we’d chosen. After trying it once, we skipped breakfast for the rest of our stay. One of our rooms had broken air conditioning in the middle of summer, and despite reviews from 2024 mentioning the same issue, nothing was done to fix it. There was also no divider or separation between the toilet, shower and the rest of the room. The house itself was rundown. The front door felt flimsy, a padlock was used to secure the back door, our bedroom door was broken, and half the outlets were taped over. The nice coffee machine was broken. There were empty packets and tools left lying around, adding to the sense that no one maintains the place. The roof terrace looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in quite some time, with bird droppings everywhere. There are also four loud air conditioning units, making it far from a peaceful spot. When it came time to check out, we had no instructions and no one was around, so we just left. Overall, this place feels like it could be great but falls massively short. We wouldn’t recommend staying here - and if you’re considering it, make sure to check reviews on Booking.com, not just Google. A mistake that we made.

We had a really great stay here and would definitely come back. The place feels like a little retreat — we loved the sauna and the big soaking tub. It was also a nice surprise that each suite has its own tub too, which made it extra relaxing. Just a couple things to know ahead of time: there are quite a few stairs, so keep that in mind if you’re bringing a lot of luggage or have mobility concerns. There are also three suites in the house, so some spaces are shared. One of the other guests left a bit of a mess in a common area while we were there, but honestly that’s just something that can happen when there are multiple guests staying. It didn’t really take away from our experience. We had a little trouble figuring out the front door when we first arrived, but the cleaners were able to help us out quickly which we appreciated. It’s self check-in and more hands-off than a traditional B&B, so don’t expect a full meet-and-greet, but the host/cleaning team were responsive when we needed them via text or call and that worked totally fine for us. Overall we really enjoyed our stay — it was cozy, relaxing, and the amenities made it feel special. Would happily stay again.

“Terrible” I have booked the Halifax Rooftop because of good reviews on the booking side, should have googled first. I got a major disappointment. Walking in a room and finding used, dirty dishes from the last guest is a big turn off. Dirty furniture, dust bunnies under the bed led to the conclusion. The room was not cleaned after the last guest. Then we have seen the bathroom (which was located over the hallway). Mouldy shower curtain, the toilet wedged between the tub and the Washer/Dryer combination. The door to the bathroom could not be locked from the outside. As I wrote to the owners with my complains, a lady showed up and said she will clean the room now. About the bathroom door not locking from the outside, all I got was: We have to have access for doing the laundry and everybody knows not to use it! The Main (shared) Living Room was unusable because the patio door was broken and you could not close it, and ice cold (-15 degree) wind was coming in. Maybe everything is better in the summer but this stay was horrible.

We had a great stay overall. A couple of the doors had minor issues from previous guests, but once we figured them out everything worked fine. Dami was extremely helpful and responsive whenever we had questions, which made things easy. The house is very tech-forward — smart locks, automated features, etc. — so I’d definitely recommend reading the manual when you arrive. Once you do, it’s straightforward and actually really convenient. Breakfast is more continental-style with snacks, pastries, and light options. That worked perfectly for us since we’re not big breakfast people anyway. The location felt safe and convenient, and the price was very reasonable for what you get. It’s important you check out the photos beforehand so you know which suite is yours as two are close together. Overall, it was a comfortable, affordable stay with responsive hosts and a modern vibe. We’d stay again.

I recently stayed at this hotel in the King Penthouse and could definitely see the vision behind the space and what the team is trying to achieve. The concept is modern and luxury amenity focused, and there’s a lot of potential here. However, a few key details fell short and affected the overall experience. The room had a lot of built-in technology, which is great in theory, but the instructions were not clear or detailed enough. We spent quite a bit of time trying to figure out how everything worked, and it wasn’t very intuitive. More thorough and specific guidance would make a big difference. Unfortunately, comfort was another issue. The bed frame was loose and extremely squeaky, and it felt like it was close to falling apart. The memory foam mattress caused us to sink in quite deeply and retained a lot of heat, which made it uncomfortable to sleep on. The sauna warmed up slightly but didn’t reach a temperature that felt like a proper sauna experience. On the positive side, the steam shower was excellent, and the hot tub was very enjoyable, although it did take nearly half an hour to fill. A few small details could also be improved. There was only one garbage can in the entire space, and while there was a sign asking guests to use makeup wipes instead of towels, no wipes were provided. There were also no tissues in the room, which was inconvenient. We chose this place mainly for the amenities, and while some of them were impressive, we were also hoping for a comfortable and restful night’s sleep, which unfortunately wasn’t the case. Overall, I’d rate this stay a 3/5. With some attention to comfort, clearer instructions, and a few practical improvements, this could be a great place in the future.

I would not recommend staying at this property. When we arrived, both the bedroom and bathroom doors were wide open. This immediately raised safety concerns, as it suggested that someone could have accessed the room before us. We then found hairs and stains on the bed sheets and pillowcases. When I contacted the property, I was told there were clean sheets and pillowcases in the bathroom laundry area and that I could change them myself. When I checked, there were no clean sheets or pillowcases—only towels. I called again and was told they would send someone from Sackville to change the bedding. This was around 9:00 p.m., which is completely unreasonable for a basic cleanliness issue. The room was also advertised as having a private bathroom. In reality, the bathroom is located on the stair landing outside the room. You have to exit the room and walk through a shared stair area to access it. There is no way to prevent others from using it, which makes the listing misleading. On top of that, the main living room and kitchen were extremely cold, and the backyard door was broken. This made us feel unsafe staying in the property. Because of the cleanliness, safety, and misrepresentation issues, we decided not to stay. No refund was provided. While the money itself is not my main concern, I feel it’s important to share this experience so others don’t go through the same thing. We ended up staying at another hotel that same night, where standard hygiene, housekeeping, and management practices were properly followed. The contrast was very clear.

My husband and I stayed here the second week of August after being impressed by the photos online. What a disappointment. Upon walking in it smelled like warm garbage and the sink was filled with dirty dishes and flies buzzing everywhere, we later learned they provide a breakfast service which we declined everyday because obviously the food handling and cleanliness was highly questionable. The room had dust and hair throughout. They offer “daily snacks” in the shared area and we saw the same same plate of nuts and dates out the entire time we were there and they charge $1 for a bubbly or water which is diabolical - seriously want me to e-transfer a dollar after spending $500+ a night to stay here - how insulting. One night we were trying to back in our vehicle to the odd little driveway and the owner zipped in behind us and took the spot while they ran in with their screaming toddler…guess we will park on the road then? Overall just not the vibe at all given the price, super filthy (def don’t use the hot tub or saunas) and smelly. Poor hosts.

Misleading ad, no privacy, unresponsive owner gives no refunds. Avoid at all costs!! We visited Halifax for the first time from out of province and were looking for an affordable and intimate place to chill for the night. Price seemed reasonable, but the owner's ad on Expedia is EXTREMELY misleading. Cool photos and nice lighting, but that's where it ends. It's literally in a sketchy suburban neighbourhood and the vibe was not right. Room was much smaller than it looks in pics and there is a **shared** bathroom between the two rooms that are very close to each other. We found out too late the owners live in the property and did not even greet us. Zero privacy. I also had to park on the street down the road because the driveway is an awkward hill. We booked last minute which wasn't ideal, but immediately I wanted to go back to the no-frills hotel we had stayed at the previous night. We respectfully informed the host that this was not what we had expected from the ad and immediately texted Rebecca (the owner/manager or so we were told) to see if she could cancel our stay and refund us given that we weren't thrilled. Crickets. The host was pretty clueless but told us we had to go through Expedia to cancel, and after submitting a ticket we left the premises promptly for a hotel. The refund was denied by the owner many days later. Did not wish to make anyone's lives difficult here and were clear about that with the host and owner, but the customer service was atrocious. I'm sure the owners will come back and say that we should have "read the details" but come on, they are not clear and that's how you fail to meet customer expectations. Needless to say we will not be returning to this Airbnb dump!
