Guests consistently praise the Westin Nova Scotian for its prestigious waterfront location, excellent service, and fine dining options. However, recent reviews highlight negatives including a problematic late check-out fee associated with the front desk, outdated room amenities, and inconsistent food quality at the restaurant.
The hotel was very well kept, rooms were clean and comfortable. The staff were very helpful and accommodating. The food provided for the conference we attended at the hotel was amazing, fresh and in abundance. The location of this hotel on the harbor front was an added bonus with a beautiful view of the water from our room. It was in walking distance of everywhere we needed to go.
The hotel has a great location, near to the Superstore, walking paths. Great space to hold professional conferences, spacious, accommodating. Staff is professional, helpful, responsive to the needs of the clients- thank you! Excellent service. Rooms are quiet, spacious and clean. Highly recommended.
I wish I could leave more than 5 stars. We spent Valentine's weekend here and it was incredible. The location of this beautiful landmark hotel really gives you the opportunity to explore downtown Halifax. The local flavors are everywhere. The proximity to the Seaport Market and incredible downtown restaurants make this a great location. But you need not to venture out for incredible 5 star dining, the restaurant serves some of the best dining you could experience. But what really makes this hotel a standout is the staff. They are amazing! From the front desk to the bar and wait staff it is top notch. If you get the privilege of having Tracy as your server you are blessed. Thank you for an incredible weekend ??
Loved the room and the view. Problem with TV was addressed immediately. Missing bath mat was delivered quickly. Had another New Year dinner ruined at your restaurant. I had booked the New Year dinner on your holiday hot line but was told when we arrived at the restaurant that the New Year dinner took place on Dec 31, last year it was on New Year day. We ordered the grazing board which did not have the artisan bread as per the menu, just a few toast crisp, many cheeses were provided but nothing to spread it on. My wife wanted to order the seafood chowder but wiselly asked if there was any salmon in it, salmon was not included in the ingrediant list on the menu. Great server Tracy checked - there is salmon in your chowder. Great seafood chowder does not have salmon. My wife is practically an expert on the best chowder in Halifax and the province. Does your kitchen staff ever sample jerk chicken elsewere? Yours was not very good and there was so little of it. It came with a yam dish that I thought was bad salmon and was inedible. This was the second New Year dinner ruined for us and will be the last. We were given a comp future meal last year but nothing will bring us back to this restaurant.
My wife was unfairly treated by the staff. Here’s what happened: - she was attending a Christmas party and the total amount spent for the party was roughly 10k. - she check checked out at 2:30 pm and was charged a $117 dollar late check out fee that should have been absorbed into the cost of the party, but secondly should have not been $50 but was inflated to over $100 because of a 30 minute difference in time 2pm vs 2:30pm) late check out. Despite asking to speak to the manager the hotel staff decided to give her a hard time to the point where I now have to write this review to protect her honour! I myself am a Titanium member of Marriott so I am not impressed at all with how she was treated. She is a mother of two, her heels were killing her from dancing, and the last thing she needed to deal with was front desk staff that giving her a hard time about her check out time and fees, especially when this was a corporate Christmas party. The staff could have simply held the fees in pending approval until Monday morning when they could speak with our corporate accountant whom had set the party up. I am just so disappointed at how she was treated. The hotel and the majority of the staff are wonderful. But in this instance the front desk staff was very subpar.
Stayed at the Westin Nova Scotian December 5 to 10, 2025. Mobility impaired accessible. Good location adjacent to the Via Rail station and bus terminal. Many popular locations are within a 15 minute walk from this Hotel. Lobby, meeting rooms, and other common areas well maintained. Rooms were great but there did appear to have a dust build-up, perhaps from the air handling equipment. Restaurant, serving full meals were very good. Staff were excellent. Some amenities included car rentals, gym, pool and work stations.
The bed linen and towels were lovely. The View was great and the windows were able to be opened. Pre-purchasing breakfast with the room terrible value for money. Little details took the shine off: the guest room phone and the charging station were both dirty. The desk chair in the room would not stay at the height I set it at which made for uncomfortable sitting and working at the desk. Other than these details to stay was very good
Had a lovely 8-night stay with our two Goldens. There are 4 great strengths to this hotel: unfailingly helpful and professional staff across the services. Second, Bellhops in particular very welcoming and friendly to our dogs, as was the general manager. Third, the waterfront location is great. Fourth, the bromine pool and whirlpool are perfect, as well as gym They just need to be open for a bit longer at night. Downsides: the room was small, as was the closet, which also has an auto-shut which is really inconvenient. The plumbing is outdated. Simple amenities that should be basic are: more hooks to hang clothing or towels, or add towel bars; more hangers; a microwave, and slippers. As well, the cards to open the rooms and use in elevators don’t read that well. As to atmosphere, this seems to have become more and more a convention centre, with constant large groups everywhere and in elevators. and hanging out in the lobby with their drinks, and loud parties tolerated there can be heard in the rooms, ostensibly allowed until midnight This is not the “experience “ or “wellness “ that Marriott touts. It isn’t elegant or restful and doesn’t provide a little extra, such as a complementary breakfast We enjoy the hotel especially because it is so welcoming for our nice dogs and puts us at a really lovely and tastefully developing waterfront. Westin and Marriott need to capitalize on guests’ appreciation for this city, which conventions will not care about
